Bayless-Selby House Museum
The Bayless-Selby House Museum located in Denton, just 6 miles northwest of Corinth, is a historical site and museum worth visiting. What started as a small farmhouse built in 1880, became a Victorian Queen-Anne style house built as an addition in 1898. This home was first built by the Bayless family who added on to the house as their family grew. Mr. Bayless was murdered over a contract dispute in 1919. His widow, Mrs. Bayless didn't want to keep the house after witnessing such a tragedy on the property, so she sold it to the Selby family.
Mr. Selby and his family built a greenhouse on the land and became known throughout the area for their roses and floral arrangements used for weddings and funerals. In 1998, the Bayless-Selby house was auctioned off and then donated to the Denton Historical Society and it was moved to its current location in the Denton County Historical Park.
Today, visitors can tour the house and museum to get a picture of what life was like in the late 1800s and early 1900s in Denton. Guided tours are available upon request and should be scheduled in advance, especially for large groups. You can also embark on a free, self-guided tour of the property during their regular business hours from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday in the winter and Tuesday through Saturday in the summer.
